Save Money on Three Common Everyday Items
Welcome back! I hope you all are doing well. Today I’d like to share with you 3 more unique ways to save some money in your everyday life.
Save Money by Using a Reusable Water Bottle
If you don’t use a reusable water bottle yet, well what are you waiting for?! Buying single use plastic bottled water is terrible for the environment and produces enormous amounts of waste. Not to mention, you are constantly paying for water which isn’t helping your goal of saving money.
When you start shopping for a reusable bottle, my advice is to choose a metal bottle instead of a plastic bottle. I recently learned that plastic water bottles begin to degrade and wear down within a year or two. Small cracks form and the structure of the bottle begins to degrade which can cause unhealthy chemicals to leak into your water. Which goes to be said that if we are having to buy a new bottle every year or two, that’s not ideal in my opinion for my wallet or the environment. Metal bottles seem to last much longer (~12 years) and reduce our plastic use. For under $35, this is the water bottle I’ve used for the last 7 months and I really like it so far. It’s well made and I feel like it will last me a long time. Or you could try this one for under $25.
Save Money Over Time with Rechargeable Batteries
Do you feel like you’re constantly having to buy new batteries? You might want to consider investing in rechargeable batteries. Initially, you will pay more money up front for the purchase of rechargeable batteries but over time, you will likely recoup your costs. Check out this analysis where they break down how long it will take you to recoup your costs with rechargeable batteries. If you have the ability to, I’d suggest you begin to invest in rechargeable batteries. You can do this slowly over time if you’d like. Every time my batteries die in something, it’s so comforting knowing I just have to go charge them instead of having to buy a whole new pack of batteries. And did I mention this is also producing less waste? Win win.
I personally own this charger from Energizer and the corresponding energizer batteries. They work for me and I haven’t had any issues with them and I’ve had them for probably about 2 years so far. You can just buy one pack at a time and slowly build up your collection until you have the amount that allows you to power the things around your house such as tv remotes, children’s toys, and other electronics. I use these corresponding AAs and AAAs. Though I seem to use more AAAs throughout the house than double AAAs so the 8 pack of AAAs might be a better option for you if your household is the same.
Switch to Using a Safety Razor and Save Loads
Are you paying more than $10 for a package of new razor cartridges? Not anymore!
Let me introduce you to the safety razor. Safety razors use a single blade and work amazingly well in my experience. Even better, safety razors will save you so much money over time! The replacement blades use a single blade instead of the cartridges used on other razors. You can find a handle for under $20. Here’s one for under $30. You can find a pack of 100 replacement blades for less than $10 (At the time of writing). That’s insane when the cost of typical razor cartridges is ~$22 for a pack of 6.
As a woman, safety razors scared me a bit initially. It took me quite a while even after I bought the razor to have the confidence to use it. However, there really was zero reason to be scared at all and it really is no different than using a typical multiblade razor. I get a smoother shave with much less irritation which is huge. I used to get the worst razor burn with the old style razors, but I’ve had zero issues since switching to the safety razor. You can also change the blade out more often if you wish because the price per blade is so cheap! I will never go back to the old cartridge style razors that are ridiculously expensive and cause my legs to be on fire.
